Elma Nukić

Meet Elma Nukić — a graphic designer, illustrator, and Master's student from Bosnia and Herzegovina whose work explores the relationship between visual communication, identity, and audience.

Working across illustration, branding, publishing, and cultural projects, Elma is particularly interested in how design can make ideas more accessible, encourage dialogue, and create a sense of recognition and belonging. She believes design is not just a tool for communicating information, but a way of connecting people with stories, communities, and each other.

Alongside her commercial practice, she develops personal and research-driven projects, including her award-winning series Traditional Costumes of Bosnia and Herzegovina in a Contemporary Context. Through contemporary character design inspired by traditional folk costumes, the project reimagines cultural heritage for new generations and was recognized at the regional Werkstatt Faber Femina exhibition.

At the heart of Elma's practice is a desire to help others find their voice and tell their stories. At the same time, she believes it is equally important to keep searching for her own voice through her work. It is precisely this space between personal expression and empowering others that inspires her the most—and gives her work its authenticity, warmth, and distinctive character.
